An abort gate is located in a pneumatic conveying air duct and is designed to divert the air flow from its normal path to the atmosphere whenever sparks or flames have been detected by a spark detection system ahead of the abort gate inlet.

The very fast response of the abort gate between the time of detection and the opening of the gate allows the sparks or flames to be diverted to the atmosphere to protect equipment located beyond the gate. The gates are designed to meet NFPA-664 chapter 8 requirements.

Abort gates are available for dust pipes from 5” to 60” diameter and have a welded and bolted steel design. The gates can be reset either manually or provided with power assist.
